Retail has seen a number of closures in recent months, but the trend has been reversed by a surge in new store openings.
The increase coincides with changing consumer preferences and the beginning of physical retail’s resurgence in the sector.
Grocers, apparel retailers, and home goods businesses are all starting again with this month’s roundup of store openings.

Bed Bath & Beyond making a comeback after bankruptcy, opening new store
Rising from the ashes of bankruptcy, Bed Bath & Beyond is making a comeback to the physical retail industry.
This time, however, the home products business is making a comeback in a single location under a different moniker.
After being acquired by Overstock.com, the big-box retailer filed for bankruptcy in 2023, liquidating hundreds of its physical stores and switching to an online-only business.
Now, Kirkland’s Home shops and Bed Bath & Beyond have partnered to create a new brand.
The Brand House Collective, the recently established parent business, has announced that Bed Bath & Beyond will open under the new name Bed Bath & Beyond Home.
On Friday, August 8, next week, the new store in Nashville, Tennessee, will open.

Trader Joe s is opening 30 new stores
As part of its strategy to increase its presence throughout the United States, the diverse grocery store company Trader Joe’s is opening 30 additional locations in 18 states and the District of Columbia.
California, New York, and Texas are the states with the most recent openings, each receiving three new sites.
There will also be a new site in New Jersey, however the launch date has not yet been disclosed.

Target is opening 8 stores nationwide
Target has no intention of slowing down, despite its recent announcement that it will be offering a price-matching incentive that would match prices at rivals like Walmart and Amazon.
Eight additional stores will open this summer, according to the big-box retailer, with one in additional York already open and several more scheduled to debut in mid-August.
According to Target, the retailer plans to create 20 new shops this year and 300 more over the following ten years as part of its enormous expansion strategy.

Nordstrom Rack to open 5 U.S. stores in 2026, including one in N.J.
Retail Insight Network reports that Nordstrom Rack, the cheap division of luxury retailer Nordstrom, intends to open five more locations in the United States by 2026.
One location—the Deptford Town Center in Deptford, New Jersey—will open.
The new Nordstrom Rack will be installed at the following four locations:

Mansfield Crossing in Mansfield, Mass.

Settlers Market in Williamsburg, Va.

Elmwood Center in Elmwood, La.
There are presently nine Nordstrom Rack locations and four Nordstrom stores in New Jersey.
Lidl opening 3 new stores, including 1 in N.J.
This Monday, Lidl announced that three supermarket stores would open in three different states.
The grocer claims that the stores are situated in New York, New York; Bethesda, Maryland; and Hackensack, New Jersey.
While the New York facility opened on Friday, the Maryland and New Jersey facilities launched on Wednesday.
