Ocean County Man Charged In Cane Attack On Mother

Manchester According to authorities, a man from Manchester Township has been charged with aggravated assault and attempted murder for reportedly using a cane to strike his mother.

According to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer, Joseph Cavallaro, 44, was charged on June 27 with attempted murder, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, and unlawful possession of a firearm.

At around 12:15 p.m. on Friday, Manchester Township Police Department officers were called to the Pine Acres Manor Mobile Home Community in response to a report of a woman in difficulty. A 71-year-old woman with facial and bodily injuries was discovered. She was taken to Neptune’s Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where her status is stable but serious.

According to an inquiry, Cavallaro’s mother was the victim, and Cavallaro allegedly battered and abused her with a cane. After being arrested on the spot, he experienced a medical crisis and was transferred to the Community Medical Center in Toms River, where his condition is classified as stable.

After being discharged from the hospital, Cavallaro will be detained at the Ocean County Jail until a detention hearing.

The defendant is deemed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law, and all charges are merely accusations.
