Police Seek Help Naming New K-9 Pup

SOUTH TOMS RIVER – The Police Department is welcoming its newest and furriest recruit—a 3-month-old male Belgian Malinois-German Shepherd mix—who will soon begin training in narcotics detection and tracking missing persons.

Donated by Bewaker K9, the puppy is preparing to join the department’s K-9 Unit alongside current K-9 Loki and handler Sgt. Kosh Jr. But before he can begin his official duties, the department is asking the community to help choose his name.

Residents can vote on one of six names by liking, sharing, or commenting on the department’s social media post.

The top three names will be reviewed by officers, and the winning name will be announced July 20, at 5 p.m.

“We’re thrilled to have the community be part of this special moment,” the department said in a statement. “Let’s give this brave pup the perfect name as he begins his journey with us.”
