“General Hospital” star Tristan Rogers revealed that he’s been diagnosed with cancer.

Rogers’ friend and publicist, Anthony Turk, shared the news via a statement to

Soap Opera Digest

on Thursday, July 17.

“Beloved Emmy-winning actor Tristan Rogers, best known for his role as Robert Scorpio on the daytime drama ‘General Hospital,’ is sharing with fans that he has been diagnosed with cancer,” the statement began. “While he remains hopeful and is working closely with his medical team on a treatment plan, this is a challenging time for Tristan and his family. As they face both the emotional and physical burdens that come with this diagnosis, the family kindly asks for privacy and understanding.”

The statement didn’t specify what type of cancer, Rogers, 79, is battling. Turk noted that “future updates will be shared if deemed appropriate” by Rogers and his family.

“Tristan sends his love to his fans and wants them to know how much he appreciates their loyalty and encouragement over the years,” the statement continued. “This support means more to him now than ever.”

Rogers last made an appearance on “General Hospital” in November 2024. The episode set him up to take a break from the ABC soap opera, as Robert Scorpio left Port Charles with his ex-wife Holly Sutton (Emma Samms).

Rogers has played Robert Scorpio on and off since 1980. He is the only actor to ever portray the international spy. Rogers also played Colin Atkinson on “The Young and the Restless” from 2010-2012.

The daytime television star has been married to Teresa Parkerson since 1995. The couple share daughter Sara, 32, and son Cale, 28.
