Fast moving fire engulfs Palmer Township home

Published On:

A fast-moving fire destroyed a Palmer Township home, displacing three residents on Sunday afternoon.

Firefighters got the call at 12:47 p.m. to the fire at 3008 William Penn Highway just west of Greenwood Avenue, according to

Palmer Township Municipal Fire Department

Battalion Chief

Ken McPherson

.

The fire was under control in 20 minutes, but by then the home was torched, he said.

An elderly woman who lived on the first floor was taken to an area hospital to be checked out, McPherson said. Two tenants who live upstairs are out of the area, McPherson said. A cat was rescued from the second floor, McPherson said.

The fire started in the first floor living room, and the cause is under investigation, McPherson said.

Northampton County property records say the home is owned by the Victoria A. Bond trust, with an address listed in the home that was destroyed.

The afternoon temperatures in the high 80s presented challenges for firefighters, so they made sure they had plenty of water, Gatorade, towels and ice, McPherson said. The Weis supermarket across William Penn Highway provided water for firefighters, he said.
