The new Netflix docuseries “Amy Bradley Is Missing” tells the chilling true story of a 23-year-old woman who went missing from a Royal Caribbean cruise ship.
The three part docuseries, which hit Netflix on July 16, outlines several theories for what happened to Amy. After a night of partying with her brother, Brad, at the Rhapsody of the Seas nightclub, Amy made it back safely to her family’s suite. Her father, Ron, saw her sleeping on the balcony just half an hour before she disappeared into thin air.
After a thorough search of the entire cruise ship, the captain informed Amy’s family that she was nowhere to be found on board. So, where did Amy go?
One theory is that Amy could have jumped from the balcony of the ship or fallen overboard. That’s what Kirk Detweiler, who was the Rhapsody of the Seas cruise director when Amy was onboard, thinks happened. But not everyone is so sure. Amy’s body was never found, and there’s been speculation that she’s still alive somewhere.
“I’ve kind of gotten to the point where I have to believe she’s alive,” the doc’s co-direcor Ari Mark said during an interview with the
Hollywood Reporter
. “We’re always so used to calculating odds. ‘Well, the odds are this happened, and the statistics say.’ .. All of those things are true. But if we’re telling a remarkable story, I think there’s just as much of a chance that there’s a remarkable answer.”
The Bradleys noticed Amy’s absence as the ship was arriving in Curaçao. When there was no conclusive evidence that Amy fell or jumped off the ship, the family went back to the Caribbean island to search for her there. A taxi driver approached Ron and claimed that he had seen Amy in distress on the island.
In “Amy Bradley” is missing, Ron said the cab driver remembered Amy approaching his car and asking for directions to a payphone. He told Ron that Amy seemed “frantic” and walked in the opposite direction of where he told her to go.

There have been other reported sightings of Amy. The summer after her disappearance, a man named David Carmichael told the FBI that he saw a woman who looked like Amy walking on a Curaçao beach with a man who looked like the cruise ship’s bass player, Alistir Douglas, who was an initial suspect.
Another man named Bill Hefner claimed that he was approached by a woman in a brothel in 1999 who said her name was Amy Bradley. The woman alleged that she was being held against her will because she owned men money for drugs. An anonymous source also sent the FBI a poster for a website promoting sex work which included a photo of a woman who looked like Amy.
All the reported sightings could point to Amy being a victim of sex trafficking, although the theory has never been confirmed.

As for Alistir Douglas, Amy was seen talking and dancing with him on the ship the night she went missing. He denied having anything to do with her disappearance, but his daughter, Amica Douglas, isn’t convinced of his innocence. Amica appeared in “Amy Bradley Is Missing,” claiming that her father acted strange after returning from the cruise Amy was on.
What year did Amy Bradley go missing?
Amy went missing on March 24, 1998, when she was 23. If she is alive today, she would be 51 years old.
