Manchester According to authorities, a collision Thursday night at the intersection of Route 37 and Commonwealth Boulevard claimed the life of a 20-year-old motorcyclist and injured another.
According to the Manchester Township Police Department, when police arrived around 8:30 p.m., they discovered a black 2024 Kawasaki Ninja 500 motorcycle on its side in the westbound lanes and a gray bicycle lying in the intersection.
Due to his injuries from the collision, the motorcyclist, Connor L. Nolan of Manchester Township, was declared dead at the spot. He had been wearing a helmet authorized by the DOT, according to the police.
Kimberly Reinschmidt, 49, of Manchester Township, was the cyclist who had cuts to her left hand and arm in addition to what seemed to be internal injuries. After being brought to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, police reported that her condition was stable.
A preliminary examination indicates that Reinschmidt crossed the crosswalk from Commonwealth Boulevard while Nolan was heading west on Route 37. According to authorities, Nolan lost control of the motorcycle after it collided with his front end, ejecting him from the vehicle as it crashed into a concrete center divider.
While emergency personnel and detectives worked at the scene, the road was blocked for a number of hours.
Police added that the incident, which is still being investigated by Patrolmen Conner Yatauro and Anthony DeBalsio of the department’s Traffic Safety Unit, appears to have been caused in part by the driver’s reckless speed and disregard for a traffic signal.
