The city of PhiladelphiaEagles supporters had been concerned about the team’s linebacker talent being inadequate for years prior to the most recent season.
It is no longer an issue in 2025.
The Eagles possess one of the NFL’s greatest, if not the best, LB cores.
Last year, Eagles linebacker Zack Baun made the first team All-Pro in his debut season as an off-ball linebacker.Next to Baun, Nakobe Dean was an above-average starter who could still have an impact once he recovers from his injury.
The story doesn’t end there.
Jihaad Campbell, a linebacker from Alabama, was selected by Eagles general manager Howie Roseman in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Campbell has looked like a star during training camp, and he hasn’t even reached his full potential yet.
The Eagles have three capable starting linebackers thanks to Campbell, and the backups are equally strong. This summer, rookie Smael Mondon Jr. and second-year LB Jeremiah Trotter Jr. have both performed admirably.
This season, Philadelphia’s defense has more gaps, but their middle is even more potent and may be able to mask some problems. Perhaps that’s why Philadelphia continues to dominate.
A solid defense is made up of linebackers who can stop the run, put pressure on passers, and give excellent coverage.
No, I wouldn’t describe it as stacked. When discussing his team’s talent on Thursday, Eagles linebackers coach Bobby King said, “Don’t set me up like that.” Last year, we had some good football games, and this year, we need to improve. Now that last year is behind us, we can continue to build.
King was being humble.
He had more than adequate linebackers. Last season, they were the backbone of the league’s top defense. In the Eagles’ Super Bowl triumph, Baun intercepted Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
King, though, wants his players to aim further. They might be able to now that Campbell is out of the room.
According to King, Campbell has done a good job juggling his tasks and always asks insightful questions during meetings (the Eagles have trained him as both an edge rusher and a linebacker).
King said, “He comes in prepared.” There will be things that I haven’t even considered or discussed. More akin to queries from a second-year university. Not fucking questions for the eighth grade. That’s really awesome, then.
According to Eagles safety Reed Blankenship, Campbell has performed admirably and appears to be an incredible athlete. In order to guide the newbie to the proper location on the field, he occasionally yells at him.
King thinks that, in contrast to other collegiate LBs, Campbell is ready for immediate success. He might become a fan favorite due to his style of play.
“Some of these guys in college, sometimes when they get to me, sometimes they’re born without arms,” King stated as one of the primary points. I was also curious if this man would utilize (his hands). And occasionally, he utilizes those with malicious intent. And I prefer to see that. You must meet me halfway by taking on blocks, I’ve always stated. And he did a good job of that.
