Tanner McKee, the backup quarterback for the Eagles, won’t be out for very long.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that McKee may miss Week 1 due to a fractured thumb, but since it’s only the top of the thumb, it’s not regarded as a serious injury.
Rapoport added that even if McKee had been fit, Philadelphia would still have made the trade for Sam Howellon on Sunday.
Kyle McCord, a rookie selected in the sixth round, was not pleased to be the Eagles’ third quarterback. Rookie safety Malachi Moore intercepted McCord after he only completed 15 of his 35 passes (42% completion percentage) against the Jets.He might be re-signed to the practice squad after being waived.
When healthy, McKee will be the No. 2 and might be among the NFL’s finest backups this season.
For the most of the season, Howell will be the Eagles’ third quarterback. He is superior to the majority of NFL third-string quarterbacks.
Howell, who was selected by the Washington Commanders in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, has started 18 games, including 17 for Washington in 2023.
Howell was moved to the Seattle Seahawks in the 2024 offseason after recording 21 touchdowns and 21 interceptions in that season. He only completed five of his fourteen attempts and threw one interception in his two games as the backup last season.
