In the wake of her husband Jeff Baena’s January suicide, Aubrey Plaza is making her grief public.
In an episode of the Poehler’sGood Hang podcast on Tuesday, August 19, Plaza confided in her friend and fellow Parks and Recreation alum Amy Poehler.
“On behalf of all the people who feel like they know you and the people who do know you, how are you feeling today?” Poehler said Plaza after acknowledging her awful, horrible year.
Plaza answered, “I’m glad to be with you right now, in this very, very present moment.” All in all, I’m here, I’m working, and I’m incredibly thankful to be traveling the world. “Okay,” I say. As you might imagine, it’s a daily fight.
The actress then likened her anguish to the February debut of the Apple TV+ movie The Gorge.
There are cliffs on both sides of the gorge in the film, and there are monsters attempting to capture them in the gorge between them. Plaza claimed that after watching it, I thought, “That feels like what my grief is like, or what grief could be like.” I can always see the vast ocean of terribleness that is always there. Sometimes I just want to stare at it, and other times I want to jump right in and be a part of it. I attempt to avoid it at times. However, it’s always there, and the monsters are attempting to convince me to adore [The Gorge stars] Anya Taylor-Joy and Miles Teller.”
