A thorough webinar is being held by Penn State Extension to assist tree lovers in making sure their plantings will be successful in the long run.
The Proper Native Tree Planting for Long-Term Success online webinar is scheduled on September 9 from noon to 1:30 p.m.
The webinar includes a community tree specialist from the Bureau of Forestry of the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, extension educators, and specialists from Penn State Extension’s Master Watershed Steward program.
These experts will discuss important facets of planting trees, such as choosing a location and continuing care.
In order to maximize tree growth, participants will learn how to assess microsite conditions and choose the right planting area sizes.
Three primary topics will be covered in the program: matching certain tree species to suitable planting locations; acceptable planting methods, such as controlling depth and roots; and necessary aftercare, such as watering, pruning, and examining damage.
Customers of native tree and shrub sales, environmental stewards, landowners, watershed associations, and anyone else interested in planting trees are among the many people who are welcome to attend the webinar. A $5 discount card for free entry will be given to customers who bought trees during the 2025 sale.
The $5 registration fee must be paid before noon on September 9. Within ten business days following the event, participants will have access to a recording of the webinar, which will be accessible for six months.
In order to support Pennsylvania’s efforts to maintain its watersheds, streams, and rivers, the Master Watershed Steward program, which hosts this webinar, teaches volunteers in watershed management and then disseminates their expertise to local communities.
