TOMS RIVER — Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced Monday that Michael P. Gable, 56, of Berkeley Township, pleaded guilty to causing serious bodily injury while driving unlicensed, stemming from an April hit-and-run in Beachwood that injured a 17-year-old bicyclist.
The incident occurred April 30 at the intersection of Mizzen Avenue and Locker Street, where the teen was struck by a vehicle while riding an electric bicycle. The driver fled the scene without stopping or contacting authorities. The victim was airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune and later released.
A joint investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit-Vehicular Homicide Squad and the Beachwood Police Department identified Gable as the driver. Authorities confirmed he was unlicensed at the time of the crash. He was taken into custody the same day and has been held in the Ocean County Jail since.
Gable is scheduled for sentencing on August 29, 2025. The state will recommend a 364-day jail term in the Ocean County Jail as a condition of probation.
Prosecutor Billhimer credited Assistant Prosecutor Stephen Burke and praised the efforts of the law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation.
