Due to radioactive isotope contamination, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration warned consumers not to eat, sell, or serve certain brands of Great Value frozen raw shrimp.
According to the FDA, the radioactive isotope Cesium-137 was discovered in shipping containers at four U.S. seaports, prompting U.S. Customs and Border Protection to notify the agency.

What contaminated shrimp is the FDA warning consumers about?
Tail-On Farm’s Frozen Raw Ez PeelThe contamination was found to be present in 2-pound bags of raised white vannamei shrimp that were supplied by BMS Foods in Indonesia.
Despite the fact that some BMS shrimp products did not test positive, the FDA is recommending a recall.
The FDA is collaborating with distributors and retailers to suggest a recall even if one hasn’t been carried out yet.

In Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, and West Virginia, Walmart stores sold the items, the FDA said.
What should people do if they have the contaminated raw shrimp?
The FDA is warning consumers not to cook or eat any uncooked, frozen shrimp that may be in their freezers from Walmart that fit the criteria.
Rather, the FDA is requesting that distributors, merchants, and consumers discard the shrimp.
Additionally, the FDA advises speaking with your healthcare physician if you believe you may have been exposed to elevated levels of cesium.
According to the FDA, consuming low-doses of Cs-137-contaminated food or water over an extended period of time can increase the risk of cancer by causing DNA in the body’s living cells to break down.
