Trenton According to the state attorney general’s office, a grand jury in New Jersey has decided not to pursue a New Jersey State Trooper in relation to the death of a motorcyclist from Toms River in Southampton in 2024.

The panel found that Trooper Anthony Fernandes was not billed for the death of 65-year-old Frank Lando Jr.

Officials said that Lando was killed on April 9, 2024, after being flung off his Kawasaki motorcycle when it struck Fernandes’ patrol car on Route 70 close to Burns Mill Road.

According to authorities, Lando’s motorcycle impacted Fernandes’ car on the driver’s side as he was trying to make a U-turn to catch up to a speeding car. Prior to the arrival of emergency personnel, the trooper provided assistance on the site. After being transported to Virtua Mount Holly Hospital, Lando was declared dead around one hour later. Fernandes did not sustain any significant injuries.

The grand jury was shown information from the Attorney General’s Office, including witness accounts, body camera footage, photographs, a reconstruction of the crash, and the state medical examiner’s autopsy. Jurors considered the evidence and decided not to file charges.
