To Heloise,After 68 years, I am now the cook because of my wife’s health. For me, pliers, scissors, and screwdrivers are the most useful tools! Cans with lift tabs are opened by me using the screwdriver. I push down on the handle of the screwdriver after inserting it through the tab.
Under goods with lids, the inner tabs can be pulled open using pliers. Using scissors to cut up leafy vegetables for salads and open plastic food bags is a smart idea. My cooking has been so much easier thanks to this. In San Antonio, Bill Ault
PLANTING SMARTLY
To Heloise,I keep the plant tags when I plant a new perennial garden and use them to create a chart that matches the garden’s layout by taping them to a large sheet of paper. Sometime during the summer, when everything is in full bloom, I will snap a picture of the garden and print a copy to accompany the chart.
When plants begin to emerge the next spring, I can quickly identify which ones did not survive the winter and swap them out for plants that are similar in height and color or those I believe would look better. Sue J., by email
MEDS FOR RECORDING
To Heloise,It’s a fantastic idea to track medications using the notes app, but I wanted to add two more recommendations:

Make sure you include supplements as these should be reported to doctors as well.

Put all of your meds and supplements on the counter and take a picture of them with your phone. This provides a wealth of crucial information: dates, doctors, dosage and the pharmacy. CAT VS. DOG FOOD
To Heloise,A cute little cat from a rescue shelter was adopted by my husband and me. He purchased what he believed to be cat food on the way home, but it was actually dog food. Is it okay to give the cat dog food? — Californian Glenda H.
No, Glenda, you cannot. Despite being heavy in weight, most dog food is deficient in the vitamins and minerals that cats require. Return the food that was not utilized to the store. Purchase healthy cat food for your adorable feline.
Asking your veterinarian what supplements they suggest for your cat may also be a good idea. Heloise

To Heloise,Traveling to a far-off place? Trekking in the desert or mountains? It is highly recommended that you bring a personal locator beacon, or PLB. These devices are meant to notify emergency personnel in the event that you require assistance. If you are lost or have an accident, a satellite messenger or PLB can save your life.
