SEARCHING FOR ANTIQUE YEARBOOKS
To Heloise,I have a suggestion: Rather than discarding undesirable yearbooks, they might be stored for someone like myself who has misplaced two years’ worth of yearbooks.
A list of people who are looking for a particular yearbook might exist, and they might sign up for it and specify what they require. This information may then be used to determine whether someone was looking for this year’s yearbook and let them know it’s available when they bring it in with a donation. In Champion, Ohio, Betty B.
This is a terrific concept, Betty. Although yearbooks are sometimes misplaced, people value the memories they hold. You could try getting in touch with Classmates.com to find out if they receive yearbook requests. If not, they might be open to launching a similar initiative for their members. Heloise
FAVORITE HINTS FROM A READER
To Heloise,One of my favorite travel tips, though I’m not sure where I got it, is to use a colorful pillowcase if you’re bringing your own pillow. You won’t want to leave it behind because it stands apart from hotel or Airbnb bedding.
Keeping butter wrappers in the refrigerator to oil baking utensils is another favorite. — by email, Betsy H.
Betsy I believe I know where the butter wrapper idea came from. It was among my mom’s most treasured clues. She detested waste and adored recycling. I appreciate you keeping this practical and helpful thought in mind! Heloise
HINT SANITIZATION
To Heloise,After a week of painting, I was cleaning up on the first day and accidentally struck the hand sanitizer pump with my hand soap pump. I used it to wash my paint-covered hands, and it miraculously and swiftly got rid of all the paint. Just normal washing, without the use of a scrub brush or vigorous rubbing. It performed equally well when I tested it on a couple different areas of the floor. I’ve been using it every day for cleaning ever since.
The findings of one person must be replicated, as is the case with all worthwhile discoveries. I encourage your readers who are painting right now to give it a try and let me know what they think. This could be an additional application for hand sanitizer. In the Orange County Register, I came upon your column. — Margaret, California’s Buena Park
What a terrific hint, Margaret! I typically put on a pair of latex gloves before painting. In this manner, the spaces between my nails and the flesh adjacent to them won’t be painted. Heloise
APPLYING PLASTIC BAGS AGAIN
To Heloise,I frequently create wrap sandwiches with huge tortillas. I receive the brand in a zip-close bag that can be sealed. To ensure that any moisture has dried, I turn the bag inside out after emptying it, brush off the crumbs, and leave it inside out. After that, I restore it to normal and put it away with other storage items.
Before baking or frying, I shake or coat foods with them. When I crush nuts or make chicken cutlets, I also put chicken in them. Reusing the bags reduces the amount of plastic used and the price of zip-close bags, plus they perform really well.
Your column is fantastic. Regards! — via email, Melody S.
Melody Your recycling advice is excellent, and I always appreciate a good one! When possible, we should all utilize paper instead of plastic. Plastic grocery bags are no longer what I use. I request paper bags, which I then fill with recyclables. After that, I retrieve the paper bag and its contents and dispose of them in the recycling container.
