When the Australian native was selected by the Eagles in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft, Stoutland unexpectedly turned rugby player Jordan Mailatain into an All-Pro left tackle.

Without Stoutland, the Eagles would not have won two Super Bowls in the previous eight seasons (2017 and 2024). The Pro Football Writers of America honored him on Tuesday with the Paul Dr. Z. Zimmerman Award, which is given for lifetime achievement as an NFL assistant coach.
Despite all of his achievements, Stoutland remains motivated by his goal to develop more outstanding offensive lines and shape the next generation of talented players.
To be honest, it makes me feel a little ashamed. That’s good. I feel honored. In response to a question on Tuesday regarding his status as an Eagles coaching legend, Stoutland stated, “I feel unbelievably good and I’m privileged.” Ultimately, though, I firmly think this. You can truly lock in if you concentrate on what you’re doing and the current task. You’re simply blindfolded with the knowledge that we must complete these tasks, and you go without getting sidetracked; typically, positive things happen.
Stoutland needs to switch to right guard if he wants to have one of the NFL’s top offensive lines this season.Tyler Steeninto is a dependable starter who can handle the responsibility of replacing the important backups from the Super Bowl team from the previous year.
Until Stoutland retires, the Eagles’ offensive line should remain one of their greatest assets in 2025.
When a starter or depth player has an issue, he always finds a workable solution. His O-linemen are more committed as a result of his open-mindedness.
Sometimes they grow weary of listening to me, Stoutland stated. Thus, when their teammates speak, they say things like, “Landon Dickerson does that for me,” “Lane Johnson will do that for me,” and “Jordan Mailata will do that for me.” In the meeting, they will remark, “Stout, hold on.”
The players will then say, “So, it’s good to break it up a little bit and hear it from the guys that are actually doing it,” as they begin to speak.
Steen, who is regarded by his teammates and coaches as one of the team’s most improved players, has finally benefited from spending the last two years listening to Stoutland.
Even though Becton, who signed with the Los Angeles Chargers in free agency and has only made three NFL starts since being drafted in 2023, defeated Steen in the right guard competition last summer, Soutland’s perseverance and dedication could make him a strong starter this season and alter the course of his career.
Last year, he played a lot of football. You have to acknowledge that he performed in over 450 plays. That, in my opinion, boosts a player’s confidence. According to Stoutland, he is currently acting in such manner. We’ve determined what needs improvement. In my perspective, Tyler Steen had a significant day today. Stoutland managed the rise of former Eagles offensive linemen Isaac Seumalo and Halapoulivaati Vaitai before he began coaching Mailata.
Eagles rookie offensive tackles Myles Hinton and Cameron Williams, who are vying for a spot on the 53-man roster, might be the next to join Stoutland’s list of accomplishments.
One look in their direction is enough to stimulate interest.
Both the 6-5, 317-pound offensive lineman from Texas (Williams) and the 6-6, 323-pound offensive tackle from Michigan (Hinton) are taller than defensive linemen and have good movement for their stature.
Myles has a lot of talent. They are what I refer to as essential factors. He has many of them. He has to learn and become proficient in the approach we are now teaching and the rationale behind it. Stoutland stated that he must push past that wall. And after he. As if the light suddenly came on and everything clicked once Jordan had it all figured out. He hasn’t arrived yet. He’s working on it.
Cameron Williams is another one of those long, athletic tackles who can slip their feet in for protection, much like Myles. In this level, they are quite valued. They are difficult to locate. I find it really fascinating to see those two athletes grow because they have the potential to become anyone they want to be. They can, in fact.
Even though both guys have excellent physical attributes, the cruel truth is that they were dropped to the sixth round because they aren’t yet good enough to play meaningful snaps and might never get there.
It’s difficult to wager against them, though, because Stoutland is their coach.
Unusual (things) appeal to us. “There must be something unique about you,” Stoutland remarked. Otherwise, people might ask, “What’s unusual?” if I close my eyes. And since I’m at a loss for ideas, it gets easier to decide who we should maintain.
