K9 Kane Remembered As A Hero In Ocean County

After joining the organization in 2012, Kane spent over ten years serving with Sheriff’s deputies and received a lot of praise for his courage.

Kane was used during a high-risk warrant in Mantoloking in 2018 for a man who was wanted on allegations of violence and kidnapping. While he was fighting arrest, the suspect stabbed Kane, but his efforts helped keep the officers safe. After being taken to Red Bank Veterinary Hospital, he recovered completely. According to reports, Kane received the Medal of Valor for his bravery from Sheriff Michael G. Mastronardy’s office. This is said to be the only time the award has ever been presented to a K9 in the history of the agency, though formal records are required to verify this.

Kane went on to carry out crucial tasks like finding missing people, tracking down fugitives, and spotting drugs.
