The Ocean County Police agencies from all around the county are collaborating with the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office on Goal: Zero, a high-profile traffic enforcement initiative designed to lower the number of fatalities on the roads.
The joint effort was announced by Ocean County Sheriff Michael Mastronardy, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer, and police chiefs from eighteen communities. A concerning rise in traffic fatalities around the state prompted the initiative. As of June 19, there have been 240 fatalities on New Jersey roads in 2025, with 28 of those deaths occurring in Ocean County alone.
According to Billhimer, the goal of high-visibility policing is to save lives, not to issue citations. We move closer to Goal Zero with each patrol, stop, and light we turn on. Achieving zero traffic fatalities is not merely an objective; it is our collective duty.
Participating departments will concentrate their patrols along important Jersey Shore roads during the first significant traffic detail, which is scheduled for Thursday, June 26 from 3 to 7 p.m. From March through September, similar enforcement actions will be carried out on the final Thursday of every month.
Holmdel Township Patrolman Matt Menosky started Goal: Zero in 2024, and it has now expanded to 36 municipalities. The campaign’s logo combines a black mourning band to memorialize those killed in road accidents with a vibrant green hue that represents school and pedestrian safety.
The following police departments are involved: Stafford Township, Harvey Cedars, Long Beach Township, Beach Haven, Surf City, Barnegat Township, Manchester Township, Toms River, Lavallette, Brick Township, Mantoloking, Bay Head, Point Pleasant Borough, Point Pleasant Beach, Berkeley Township, Seaside Park, Seaside Heights, and Bay Head.
