BRICK Charges have been brought against a township man who allegedly fled the scene of a collision that wounded a passenger, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer.
Following a single-car collision near the junction of Schoener Drive and Brick Boulevard on July 2, Nicholas Lotito, 54, was charged with fleeing the scene of a motor vehicle crash that caused serious bodily injury.
Lotito lost control and collided with a utility pole at approximately 8 p.m. while operating a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro with two passengers, according to the police. According to officials, all three of the occupants left the area on foot.
A friend later took one of the passengers to Ocean University Medical Center, where they received medical attention and were then released. The other traveler was unharmed. Lotito tried to walk home and was found nearby. He was apprehended without any problems. In order to treat his crash-related injuries, he was also sent to the hospital.
A court-authorized warrant was acquired by investigators to take Lotito’s blood. Results from toxicology are still pending. After that, he was brought to the Ocean County Jail, where he is being kept until a hearing on his custody.
Prosecutor Billhimer acknowledged the cooperation of the Brick Township Police Department, Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit-Vehicular Homicide Squad.
