Police Cadet Dies Of Cancer

Published On:

Tom’s River Teddy Golubowski wanted to be an officer and was a cadet at the Ocean County Police Academy. He runs a mile in less than a minute one day. Abruptly, he found himself in the hospital.

Golubowski seemed to be in terrific health other from a cold that he just couldn’t seem to get rid of. He had his sights set on his future job and was actively training in the academy.

That was stopped on May 27, when he seemed pale and was feeling tired. He was sent to the emergency department. He had many tumors on his belly and liver, according to a scan.

The news worsened during the following two days. Metastatic carcinoma was found in the tumors on his lungs and liver.

He received oxygen, blood transfusions, and several other treatments after doctors implanted a port. Only a week after his hospital admission, on June 3, the tumors on his liver started to bleed. In order to manage the accumulation of fluid around his lungs and the bleeding in his liver, physicians had to intubate him.

The family anticipated chemotherapy and more extensive treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center while he was receiving dialysis. His strength and fighting spirit were praised by family members. The prognosis, however, was dire.

Teddy died quietly this morning, shortly after nine in the morning, surrounded by his parents, sisters, friends, and family, according to the family’s GoFundMe page.

It was evident earlier this week that his liver was failing irrevocably and that his other organs would soon follow. “Our family worked to make this transition as peaceful as possible for Teddy after processing this news,” they said. Friends and family were able to stay with him through the night into the morning, sharing memories about Teddy and offering consolation to one another. In his final hours, he breathed on his own, without the need of a ventilator, painlessly, and in the company of those he loved and who loved him.

How to Assist

In addition to medical fees, the Golubowski family is currently dealing with funeral expenses. GoFundMe is still up and running. atgofundme.com/f/support-teddy’s-unexpected-fight-against-cancer

Teddy was a full-time cadet at the Ocean County Police Academy and was scheduled to work for Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer’s Seaside Heights Police Department. Teddy received a rare and serious cancer diagnosis shortly before he was scheduled to graduate from the Academy. During this extremely trying time, Teddy’s family and friends are in our prayers and thoughts.

Our family would like to express our gratitude to everyone who has loved and supported Teddy during the course of his life, not only in the last month. The family expressed gratitude to the friends, relatives, medical staff, and even complete strangers for their kindness, compassion, and understanding.

We just request that everyone keep honoring Teddy’s life and the amazing man he was.
