Soap opera star addresses character’s shocking death

In a recent episode of the CBS soap opera, Phillip Robert Chance Chancellor IV, who has been a mainstay of The Young and the Restless since the 1980s, met his demise.

On the Monday, July 28 episode of The Young and the Restless, Carter (Vincent Stalba) shot Chance to death. Conner Floyd, who has been Chance since 2021, addressed the terrible death and his departure from the program on Instagram on Monday.

What a journey. I consider myself extremely fortunate to be a Genoa City resident. to perform on stage alongside a large number of gifted and diligent performers, crew people, and creatives. He said in the captions of behind-the-scenes photos from the shoot, “This is definitely a special place.” I’m honored to have contributed to such a legendary work of art that has endured over the years and has such a devoted following. I’m grateful that you accepted me. Chance will hold a special place in my heart forever. I’ve learned a lot from him, and I will really miss him. Being able to represent the Chancellor’s legacy has been an amazing honor. Out and out, Detective Chancellor.

From 1988 to 2001, a number of child actors, including a young Penn Badgley, portrayed Chance, the son of Nina Webster and Phillip Chancellor III. In 2009, John Driscoll revived the character as a young adult. Before Floyd took over, Chance was portrayed by Donny Boaz and Justin Gaston.

While attempting to shield Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) and Cane Ashby (Billy Flynn) from Carter, Chance was shot and died a hero’s death.

Conner Floyd (@connergfloyd) shared this post.

Floyd told Soap Opera Digest, “I believe that’s how Chance would want to go out, as sad as it is.” I think it’s a bit poetic in a way because that’s his tale, which he’s always told, that he’s a hero and the best person to put everyone else before himself.

Floyd acknowledged that on his last day on site, he sobbed uncontrollably.

I was going into this with the attitude that I wouldn’t cry. I will not cry. And when I spoke to Billy Flynn, he said, “No, I bet you cry,” he told me. I won’t lie; I cried like a baby when I was saying goodbye to everyone and leaving after our final scene, when everyone was applauding. I was still fighting back tears when a couple of us got together and chilled out afterwards.

Fortunately, Floyd has already secured another acting role. In April 2026, he will assume the role of Chad DiMera on Days of Our Lives. Ironically, Flynn, who has since moved to The Young and the Restless, played the part before him.

On weekdays, The Young and the Restless airs at 12:30 p.m. ET on CBS and Paramount+. On Paramount+, episodes can be streamed the day after they air.
