With hurricane season approaching this year, there’s no need to search much farther if you want to visit a Caribbean island that has a low crime rate and is not in the hurricane zone.
The Caribbean Island Safety Index 2025, a national ranking of safe Caribbean islands, placed Aruba at the top of the list.
To create the list, the index included variables like hurricane risk, local crime statistics, travel advisories, and health care preparedness.
Here are the reasons behind Aruba’s top ranking and the positions of the other Caribbean islands.
Why was Aruba named the safest Caribbean island to visit?
Aruba’s low crime rate and emphasis on visitor safety are the main reasons it topped the list.
The Dominican Republic, Jamaica, and Haiti are among the surrounding Caribbean islands where the United States has issued travel recommendations due to high crime, civil turmoil, and inadequate medical facilities.
Nonetheless, Aruba received outstanding ratings overall, with 10 being the safest and 0 being the least safe on a scale of 0 to 10.
According to the Caribbean Island Safety Risk 2025, the pleasant island received a score of 10 out of 10 for hurricane risk, 9 out of 10 for crime, 8 out of 10 for healthcare, and 10 out of 10 for travel advice safety.
Hurricanes have not lately struck the nation. Additionally, the U.S. State Department has issued a Level 1-Exercise Normal Precautions advice and it boasts a robust healthcare system that adheres to Dutch standards.
However, Aruba’s high ranking isn’t solely a result of its general safety. Additionally, it has environmental preserves and national parks that will entice tourists to return.
What other Caribbean islands made the list?
Aruba was at the top of the list, followed by Barbados in second place and Grenada in third place, tied with Cura ao.
