What’s happening to Hulu? Everything to know before the app goes away

Hulu as we know it is coming to an end after 17 years.

Hulu will continue to exist in some capacity for the time being, but it will no longer be a stand-alone streaming service.

During a Disney quarterly earnings call on August 6, CEO Bob Iger declared that Hulu would be merged with Disney Plus and discontinued as a standalone app at some time in 2026. A completely new unified app will be the outcome of this.

The precise appearance of this will probably not be known until the debut date, which has not yet been announced.

Hulu will serve as the company’s global general entertainment branding, and the service is also expected to take the place of the Star tile that now appears at the top of the Disney Plus menu internationally.

In Iger’s own words: We will be making changes to the Disney+ app over the next few months, such as adding exciting new features and personalizing the homepage. This will all lead to the combined Disney+ and Hulu streaming app experience that customers can enjoy next year.

Hulu will thus be absorbed by Disney Plus at the conclusion of this process, although it won’t entirely vanish.

You don’t have to worry about losing access to your favorite Hulu programs. For the time being, the service is more of a makeover than anything else. The business insists that both Disney Plus and individual Hulu subscriptions will continue to be available as stand-alone services.

From Alien: Earth, the most recent series from Fargo creator Noah Hawley, to the upcoming King of the Hill revival series, Huluis is the official home of thousands of films and television shows.
