TOMS RIVER – A Lacey Township woman was charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash that seriously injured a pedestrian in Toms River, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced.
Cagla Nemutlu, 22, was charged with knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash resulting in serious bodily injury following the July 19 incident at Winteringham Village.
Police responded to the area at approximately 11:25 p.m. for a report of a hit-and-run involving a pedestrian. Officers found a 60-year-old man with serious injuries. He was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune and was listed in critical but stable condition.
An investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit–Vehicular Homicide Squad, Toms River Police Detective Bureau, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Investigation Unit determined that Nemutlu struck two male pedestrians while exiting a parking space, then fled the scene at a high rate of speed without stopping to help.
A second victim sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
Nemutlu was located within the Winteringham Village complex and taken into custody without incident. She was transported to the Ocean County Jail, where she remains pending a detention hearing.
Prosecutor Billhimer credited the combined efforts of all involved agencies in the investigation.
